How is Undebt.it different from Debt Payoff Planner?

A fair comparison from the person who runs Undebt.it: platform, price, payoff methods, privacy and who each tool suits

I run Undebt.it, so read this knowing where I stand. I have tried to keep it factual, and everything about Debt Payoff Planner below comes from their own site as of September 2026. If something changes on their side, tell me and I will fix it.

The short version

Both tools do the core job: enter your debts, pick snowball or avalanche, get a debt free date and log payments against it. They differ on platform, on how many payoff strategies they offer, on pricing model, and on how much detail they show.

Where Debt Payoff Planner is the better pick

If you want an icon from the App Store or Google Play, push notifications and the least possible setup, it is a polished app and a million downloads say people like it. If you only ever intend to use snowball or avalanche, its two strategy design is a feature, not a limit.

Where Undebt.it is the better pick

If you want to see what a hybrid order or a cash flow index order does to your date before you commit, only one of the two will show you. If you want a month by month table with every payment on it, exportable to Excel, that is what the snowball table is for. If you would rather pay $10 once a year than a monthly app store subscription, or you split time between a phone and a desktop, a web app that logs in anywhere fits better. And if you never want to install anything, add the site to your home screen and it behaves like an app.

What neither does

Neither tool links directly to your bank. You enter balances and log payments yourself in both. That is a deliberate privacy trade in Undebt.it's case: no credentials shared, no aggregator in the middle, at the cost of a few minutes a month.

Switching from Debt Payoff Planner

Your debts are just names, balances, rates and minimums. Enter them on the quick start grid and you will have the same plan in Undebt.it in a few minutes, plus the other methods to compare it against.
