Updated Version of the Free Debt Snowball Calculator

New & Improved Brand New Look

There is a brand new version of the free/public debt snowball calculator that has been released today. It’s a total rewrite from the old version and this new one has much more functionality. I haven’t made any changes to the original snowball calculator in many years and it’s time to start fresh. Many of these new features will make their way into the paid and free versions of the site in the near future. Here’s what’s new:

Add Your Debt Account Information

The first place to start is to add your debt account information. There are some pre-populated example debts loaded up for reference. You can add as many as you want. The next step is to choose the amount of an extra payment you can make. The last step is to click the “calculate my debt-free date” button and your plan will be instantly created for you.

Stats & Dates

One of my favorite parts of the site are the stat tiles. I’ve had them as part of the site since the very beginning.

You can see how the snowball and avalanche plans compare to each other as well as get your projected debt payoff date. One brand new statistic is the “first debt paid off” month; a key to the debt snowball motivational approach.

Graphing the Results

The graph shows your projected payoff progress versus paying just the minimum amounts each month.

Debt Account Payoff Details & Payoff Order

The next section shows details about each account including the month paid off and total interest paid. The accounts are listed in order of snowball payoff.

The Debt Snowball Table

The one holdover from the prior version is the full debt snowball table. It shows a monthly breakdown of the exact payment scheduled to be made and the running debt balance.

Dynamic Updates

The best part about this is that you can drag the slider around to adjust your additional payment and all of the data adjusts in real time. You can also toggle between the snowball & avalanche methods and everything will automatically update.

If you like what you see and decide to create a free account, just click the “save this free plan” button and your account and budget information will automatically get brought over, so there’s no need to re-enter anything.
