How do I change a due date or when my plan starts?

Changing a due date on one account

A due date belongs to the debt account. Open the account from your Account List and change the due date on its Debt Details page. The calendar, the reminders and the order of the month's payments all follow it immediately.

A few things worth knowing:

  • The due date moves forward on its own when you record a payment that meets the minimum, so under normal use you should not have to touch it month to month.
  • If your lender changed your due date, edit it once here and it stays.
  • If you are paying bi-weekly, setting the due date to the end of the month is the usual workaround. See How do I deal with bi-weekly payments?

When does the plan itself start?

There is no start date setting. The plan always begins with the current billing month and runs forward from what you owe today. That is deliberate; a payoff plan built on last spring's balances would be wrong the moment you opened it.

So if your first month looks half finished, it usually is: you joined mid month and some payments were already made before you arrived. Record them and the month completes normally. If the amounts look too high rather than too late, see The amounts the plan is wanting me to pay are very high.

Starting a debt later than the others

For a loan whose payments have not begun, a deferred student loan or a promotional period with nothing due yet, give the account a first due date in the future. Undebt.it holds it out of the plan until that month arrives, then folds it in automatically. I have a student loan that's not due for another six months walks through that case.

A date a debt has to be paid off by is different. If you put that deadline in the due date, the plan holds the debt back and saves every payment for the last month. Keep the due date on your next real payment and, as an Undebt.it+ member, set the deadline with Pay Off By a Date on the debt's Settings tab. See How do I pay off a debt by a certain date?

Starting the whole plan over

If what you actually want is a clean slate rather than a different date, that is Reset on the My Account page, which clears your debts and history and keeps your login. See How can I delete or reset my account?
